I can't see them ever using it, actually. It doesn't fit with their moveset, really. Gohan and Goku have tremendous amounts of Ki to use at any given time in most fights and so can afford to blast away with heavy taxing techniques. Spirit Ball to me always seemed like the kind of technique someone with a comparitively small amount of Ki uses. Since Yamcha doesn't have the same reserves, he can't be as willy-nilly as Goku or Gohan and isn't suicidal enough to power his attacks with his own life force like Tien is. So he needs some kind of advantage in his Ki blasts. Since he can't fire high damage ones, why not high agile blasts? Especially useful if the enemy had a weak area on the body, like the back. Too bad he never fought one like that. |

Actually we are talking about the guy who was second Roshi student who used the KKH wave. Yep he is quite master in the term of ki usage. |

He mastered his ki after Korin training , as Tien fired a regular blast at Goku , Krillin and Yamcha should've do it too. |

Of course he did. He learnt the Kamehameha before Krillin despite Krillin having trained with Roshi much longer. And he even caught Kami off guard with the Spirit Ball despite being outmatched. On top of that he'd obviously mastered flight by the battle with the Saiyans and also made it down snake way much faster than Goku. |
